AS you may already know, I've been to a few universities. I started put at Hampton University, an HBCU, then off to University of Maryland, 10 years in Brooklyn, then back to Illinois (where I was born) - at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
I remember applying to doctoral programs and I specifically remember applying to the University of Illinois. I read my personal statement to my mom and by the time I got to the bottom of the letter, I told my mom, "I'm moving to Illinois, right?" And she agreed.
I just was so passionate about who I had spoken to on the phone (Dr. Laura DeThorne), what the program had to offer, and strangely, both of my parents had gone there for their degrees.
Here is a spotlight that the College of Applied Health Sciences did on me. It was fun to reminisce about my time at Illinois and those who helped my on my journey.
