CAPCSD 2024

Two Black women standing in front of a power point presentation.
Dr. Kyomi Gregory-Martin and I before our presentation. The picture on the slide represents how being inclusive is everyone's role.

On April 2, 2024, Dr. Kyomi Gregory-Martin and I presented a four-hour pre-conference workshop: Policies and Procedures Matter: How to Build an Inclusive CSD Framework. at the Council for Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) conference.

I had such an amazing time presenting with Dr. Gregory-Martin (we seem to keep getting paired up;). During this time, we had some awesome discussions and dialogue with our attendees; administrative and clinical leaders in their CSD departments.

Some take aways included:

  • Reframing the Inclusive Framework language if necessary, it is also a Perspective framework or an Experience Framework

  • Inclusion is a feeling as well as a practice

  • Examine your department's organizational culture

  • Determine your WHY, then Review and Revise
